Art Genre: Pottery, Sculpture

Born in Mexico City, I studied ceramics and sculpture at La Escuela de Cerámica y Porcelana (the School of Ceramics and Porcelain) in Toluca, a school created and run by Japanese master potters. I held my first solo exhibit as a professional ceramist and sculptor in Mexico City in 1993. Since then, I’ve participated in more than 20 collective exhibits and held four solo shows.

Every item is handmade with coils or on the potter’s wheel from high-temperature white clay. I prepare my glazes from formulas I have researched and tested over time. My hand decorated pieces are either carved or painted with cobalt paint, freehand, without the use of decals or stencils.

Throughout my career as an artist and potter, I have held the conviction that it’s essential to surround ourselves with beauty. I work to make each piece I produce, each cup or plate or object of daily use, have a presence, a beauty which transmits the pleasure of touch, attracts the eye and tenders a sense of joy and well being. The best gift we can give, to ourselves or to others, is a thing that makes life more beautiful.
