Art Genre: Painting

Jerry Hardesty, born and raised in Osawatomie, Kansas, has etched a unique name in the sphere of abstract expressionism. A classically trained singer with a BA in Vocal Performance, Hardesty’s journey into visual arts was not a conventional one. A visit to the Nelson-Atkins Art Museum in Kansas City, Missouri triggered his infatuation with fine arts, leading him down a path that he had not initially envisaged.

In 2006, after recovering from a major health crisis, art became a therapeutic escape from depression. Hardesty’s works are discerned by his liberal approach to color and composition. He emphasizes that his inspiration is derived from work itself, consistent with the abstract expressionist ethos. His technique, a direct result of consistent practice and experimentation, allows him to communicate his thoughts and narratives powerfully.

Although Hardesty’s journey into visual arts may have been unconventional, his transition from music to visual art is not entirely surprising. He represents a generation of artists who believe art can heal and guide and often tap into their personal experiences to spark their creativity.

His mission extends beyond creating aesthetically pleasing works, aiming to inspire viewers to delve deeper, questioning their identities and encouraging them to live in the present.
